Public voting 'joke' sees Miss Frank leave X Factor
Sunday, 25th October 2009.
X Factor hopefuls Miss Frank have been dumped off week three of the show after getting fewer public votes than hot favourite Danyl Johnson.
The London trio was only given a chance in the competition when Simon Cowell asked the three soloists - Graziella Affinita, Shaniece Davis, Shar Alexandra - to form a group.
And despite a shaky first couple of performances, it was a surprise that the public didn’t show them much support as they got rave reviews from the judges after last night’s Big Band live performance.
But more shocking was who they had to sing off against - show favourite Danyl Johnson - with Simon Cowell labelling it a "joke" that his act hadn't received many votes.
The Reading-based dance teacher had been criticised for being cocky in his powerful on-stage displays and it’s this over-confidence that may have led the public to vote for his rivals.
Singing for survival
In the resulting sing-off, Miss Frank sang “Love Don't Live Here Anymore”, with Graziella doing a bit of trademark rapping. Danyl, meanwhile, chose The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends.”
Both acts were nervous, and it showed.
And even when it came around to the judges having to choose who to save, they were still clearly all shell shocked at who the public had – or hadn’t - voted for.
First Dermot went to Louis Walsh: “I can’t believe they’re in the bottom two, he said. “But I’m being 100% loyal to my act so I’m sending Danyl home.”
Simon, as expected, kept his act in too, saying: “Ive gotta be honest I’ve never been so surprised in my life.
“I think it’s a joke you’re in this position after your performance,” he told Danyl. “That was incredible. So the act I’m sending home is Miss Frank.”
Dannii Minogue then chose to save Danyl but Cheryl Cole didn’t want to break anybody’s heart, so said: “I’m confused by the public’s decision and for that reason I’m taking it back to their vote.”
So with the judges at deadlock it was back to Dermot O’Leary for the full public vote result, and it was then that Miss Frank were told their time was up.
Rap master Graziella said: “Thank you to the judges for giving us the opportunity, the lifeline, the love...”
Mentor Louis added: “I hope they stay together as a group. They were at their best last night, they’re great girls and I love them.”
Then Graziella cut in: “Definitely. We’re gonna have our own factor!
Throughout the competition, Miss Frank have been told there is a gap in the market for a group like them.
And with Louis Walsh as their mentor it’s certainly not the end of the road. They’ve already got their own JLS-style t-shirts too so they can’t go to waste!
It’s Rock Week on The X Factor next weekend and Bon Jovi will be the star guest... so expect plenty of ripped jeans and baggy t-shirts from the nine remaining acts.
