Louis Walsh's Boyzone X Factor decision
Thursday, 22nd October 2009.
The X Factor could broadcast the first live performance of Boyzone without their tragic singer Stephen Gately.
Producers have reportedly discussed inviting the grieving band on the show to perform a tribute to the 33 year-old who died in Majorca two weeks ago.
But a decision as to whether or not to ask the Irish group if they'd like to appear will only be made by their manager, X Factor judge Louis Walsh.
The Daily Mirror reports a source telling them: "Boyzone were mentioned as an obvious choice.
"Everyone is painfully aware they need to be sensitive, so they have held back on a formal approach until they speak to Louis."
Gately's devastated bandmates Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch carried his coffin during his moving funeral in Dublin last Sunday.
Walsh was also in attendance at the service. The Daily Mirror source added: "The huge outpouring of grief is hard to ignore."
"There have been a lot of messages asking the boys to do some kind of tribute to his life.
"X Factor would be the perfect place as Stephen begged Louis to be on the show.
"It would be a very emotional night for everyone - there wouldn't be a dry eye.
"The boys would have to decide whether they could hold it together."
An X Factor spokesperson denied the rumours, saying: "There are no plans at the moment but we do have Westlife coming up."
Westlife and Michael Buble will perform in Big Band Week on the X Factor this weekend.
