X Factor felt 'alien' to Robbie Williams
Tuesday, 20th October 2009.
Pop superstar Robbie Williams has revealed that he was overwhelmed with nerves as he wobbled onto the X Factor stage two weeks ago.
The singer seemed on edge, sweaty and more than a tad wide-eyed as he performed comeback single "Bodies" on the Sunday night results show.
He admits that the pressure of live performance got the better of him: "The veil is finally falling," he reportedly told The Daily Mirror.
"I'm always nervous, but in the past I've been able to look cocksure through the nerves. I'm not sure if I'm able to mask it any more.
"I got on there and had a bit of a wobble. It was overwhelming, the love in the room was palpable, but I didn't know what to do with my arms.
"I didn't feel like the seasoned pro I am. It felt a bit alien. I maybe should've done a few other shows before the big one."
Blaming the coffee
His shaky appearance led fans to question whether Robbie was high on something but he insists it was all down to nerves and a few too many coffees before going on.
"People are alluding to the fact that I may have been high on something but I can only say I wasn't - because I wasn't.
"Unless someone spiked my drink and I would have noticed. I'd had a few coffees before I went on, that's all."
Despite his highly questionable X Factor performance, Robbie's new track "Bodies" entered the UK singles chart at number two on Sunday.
And he's due to play his first full gig in more than three years for the BBC Electric Proms at the Camden Roundhouse tonight.
So by tomorrow morning we'll all find out if his nerves are still playing up.
