Sexuality not an issue says Cheryl Cole
Saturday, 17th October 2009.
Cheryl Cole has given her opinion on gay X Factor contestants a week after fellow judge Dannii Minogue was criticised for joking about one of them being bisexual.
Minogue allegedly “outed” charismatic Danyl Johnson when she said that he didn’t need to change the gender reference in a woman’s song.
But Girls Aloud star Cheryl says the only thing that matters is whether you have a good voice.
She told Attitude magazine: "You are what you are. You shouldn't have to explain either way, whether you're straight or gay.
“It shouldn't be an issue. It should be a case of you're talented. People like you. Full stop. You shouldn't have to explain.
"It's still one of those issues people still seem to have. I'm glad shows like X Factor show all the different types of people out there."
4,000 complaints
ITV was flooded with complaints after Dannii said to budding pop star Danyl on last Saturday’s live X Factor show: "If you're to believe everything you read in the papers, then you didn't need to change the gender references in the song."
She apologised the very next evening and Danyl has since said there – Danyl is the 11/4 favourite to win the show.
It’s not looking good for twins John and Edward though – they’re the bookies’ tip to get the boot tonight.
