Cheryl Cole will mime on the X Factor
Wednesday, 14th October 2009.
You'll get to see Cheryl Cole perform her brand new song live on Saturday night's X Factor. But she won't be singing it.
Instead, the Girl's Aloud star will mime the words to new solo track Fight For This Love and we'll only hear a recording of Cole's voice that she's recording hours before the show.
An X Factor spokesman revealed the decision to pre-record the track was so last year's winning mentor could focus more on being a judge than a performer.
He said: "Cheryl will be recording her music performance earlier in the day with a live studio audience to ensure she can fully continue with her judging commitments on The X Factor later that evening."
However the Daily Mail reports a source as saying show bosses didn't want a repeat of last year's disastrously out-of-tune Girls Aloud performance.
The source said: "The girls did not have a huge amount of time to rehearse, and while they looked beautiful in 1950s-style gold gowns, their vocals were terrible.
"We even had to have a sound engineer in the director's gallery backstage standing over the controls trying to make them sound better, but to no avail.
"Cheryl is the break-out star of Girls Aloud and there are big plans for her.
"Nobody - neither on the X Factor nor her record label Polydor - wants to see her fail, which is why we thought it was better for Cheryl to mime her performance."
Cheryl is hoping to guide one of her three boys Joe McElderry, Rikki Loney or Lloyd Daniels to the X Factor crown this year after leading Alexandra Burke to win the show in 2008.
But whilst her three youngsters are quivering with nerves as they prepare to sing live on Diva week, Cheryl can relax knowing that a backing track will help her along.
Oh the scandal
