Ruth Lorenzo fails in Britney Spears week
Sunday, 30th November 2008.
The battle was on for a semi-final place on the X Factor last night but despite two solid performances, Spaniard Ruth Lorenzo was voted-off the show.
It was a difficult week for all acts, with each of them having to perform two songs, one of which had to be Britney Spears number.
And although the four X Factor judges were critical of some performances and full of praise for others, they ultimately had no say in who was to be voted off the show – the contestants had to face the public vote alone without the chance to sing off.
The results show saw Britney Spears mime disappointingly to her latest hit Womanizer and tell Dermot O’Leary that she “loved being in London” when he asked her which contestant she was backing.
Nice work Britters! Host Dermot then got down to business, first announcing that last week’s sing-offers JLS were safe, then Cheryl’s girls Alexandra and Diana.
This left only Eoghan and Ruth left, but when Eoghan’s name was read out and he crumpled to the floor with relief, Ruth knew her dream was over.
And, judging by the performances on the night, the result probably should have been the other way around, with the 16 year-old Irish lad performing the worst of all acts.
Ruth, in fact, was as strong, if not better than show favourite Alexandra on the night so it was sad to see that the public didn’t take to her.
But as ever, Ruth smiled with dignity and promised the world that this was only the beginning of her dream.
She then left us all with another rendition of Bon Jovi’s Always, a truly outstanding performance.
We’ll miss you Ruth, but at least stone-faced Dannii Minogue won’t be the winning mentor again!
So, every cloud...
