Daniel Evans's wife tribute spells end for Scott Bruton
Sunday, 26th October 2008.
Scott Bruton became the third finalist to be voted off the X Factor last night after the most emotionally charged sing-offs ever seen.
It was big band night on this week's show, with hopefuls having to perform swing songs backed by a 30-piece orchestra.
And with almost every contestant at the top of their game, it was always going to be a close-run thing.
But Manchester lad Scott Bruton and widower Daniel Evans received the fewest public votes and had to sing for survival.
Former Pontin's Bluecoat Scott revealed he'd be performing I Can’t Make You Love Me by George Michael, as it represented a defining moment in his X Factor journey.
But even Scott must have knew his dream was about to come to an end when his rival Daniel announced that he was singing a Josh Groban song in tribute to his wife, who died tragically after giving birth to their 1 year-old daughter Ana-Maria.
and whilst both performances were top class, Daniel was always going to get the nod.

Simon Cowell as mentors usually do with their own acts, opted to send home Daniel because: “I have to protect my own artist”.
The same happened with Dannii, who, as Daniel's mentor, chose to send Scott home to preserve Daniel's X Factor future.
An emotional Cheryl decided to send Scott home because Daniel had shown more “passion” in his performance.
And then came Louis, poor old Louis, who looked like he was fit to burst into tears.
And he almost did, with a breaking voice and quivering eyes, the Irish groups mentor announced that Scott would be going home.
Surprising if you think that in previous weeks, Louis had told Daniel he was like a pub singer and a Ricky Gervais look-a-like...
... but not that surprising if you have to send home a man who has just performed one of the most emotional songs ever directly to his dead wife.
Will Daniel do that every week he's in the bottom two?
I he does it looks a clear run to the final.
