Alexandra Burke - X Factor 2008
Monday, 6th October 2008
20 year-old Alexandra Burke was overjoyed when Cheryl Cole chose to take her to the X Factor finals after she was rejected at the same stage three years ago.
The soul singer from North London has four brothers and a sister, and lives with her mum.
She has good pedigree too, as her mum used to sing with Soul II Soul.
When Alexandra was 9 she was passed the microphone at one of her mother’s gigs and wowed the crowd with her astoundingly strong singing voice.
And from that moment onwards she was hooked on performing.
Aged 12, Alexandra was narrowly beaten in "Star for a Night" but she was the youngest participant in the competition so losing wasn't too much of a disappointment.
Oh and she was beaten to first place by a certain Joss Stone!
Shayne Ward
Alexandra sang all throughout school and in 2005 auditioned for the X Factor which was eventually won by Shayne Ward.
She got through to the Judges Houses stage that year but Louis Walsh decided she was too young at 17 and her ended her dream in his Dublin home.
Recently, Alexandra performed at The Royal Albert Hall with "Young Voices", a charity that raises money for children with Leukaemia.
And that's given her the confidence to have a second stab at X Factor stardom.
But this time around, she looks a hot prospect for the top prize!
