Austin Drage - X Factor 2008
Monday, 6th October 2008
Austin Drage is a 21 year-old singer and actor from Essex who feels working in music is his destiny.
Austin first starting singing when he was at school and took part in musical theatre and amateur dramatics.
After leaving school, Austin signed up to an agent and landed small parts in hit film Snatch and TV soap-dramas The Bill, Casualty and other shows.
Austin's no stranger to singing in front of an audience either. At 17 he was part of a boy band called Five Boys.
The band enjoyed little success although they supported Lemar, Westlife, Shola Ama, Girls Aloud and the Blazing Squad on various tours.
But their lack of any real catchy songs meant an inevitable split and Austin suffered further disappointment when he auditioned for a part in McFly but was turned away for being too ugly.
Another failed attempt
Another failed attempt at being in a boy band followed before Austin took part in Boys will be Girls, an E4 reality TV show.
They recorded one song which was released on the E4 website.
Austin has, more recently, been part of a glam rock band called The Revamps who have been performing in and around Essex and taking part in charity events.
Last year, Austin made it through to the Bootcamp stage of the X Factor but wants to prove to Simon Cowell that he can go all the way this time around.
