Yasmina Siadatan is The Apprentice
Sunday, 7th June 2009.
Ruthless restaurateur Yasmina Siadatan has won the fifth series of The Apprentice and landed a £100,000 job in Sir Alan Sugar’s business empire.
The 27 year-old beat off competition from favourite Kate Walsh after impressing in a task which saw the last two hopefuls design and market a new box of chocolates.
Yasmina’s funky Cocoa Electric brand featured many diverse flavours like popping candy with chilli and strawberry and basil. Her presentation to industry professionals was very strong too.
Kate’s box of chocolates was designed for couples – with three tiers for him, for her and to share.
And whilst her presentation was as strong as Yasmina’s, Sir Alan thought Kate’s £13 price tag was a little expensive for a simple box of chocolates.
Back in the boardroom after the duo slogged it out for 48 hours, Sir Alan admitted he was faced with a difficult decision: "This will be the most difficult decision I have ever had to make in this boardroom because you two are both very very good candidates."
But he still had his doubts about Yasmina because she already had he own business. He told her: "I think at your age - I was nine years younger than you when I started my business. And what I did know was I didn't need anybody else.
“I think you can do it yourself, you've done it, and would I be depriving you of that opportunity."
But in the end, he went with his gut feeling, and chose Yasmina. A disappointed Kate was told she could call Sir Alan “any time” for advice in her future career.
Yasmina also wished her rival 'all the best' after telling Sir Alan “I’ll be the best Apprentice you’ve ever had.”
After the show ended, Sir Alan revealed Yasmina will be working on a digital signage product related to outdoor advertising.
So no rest for the wicked then Yasmina?!
