Kate Walsh and Yasmina Siadatan make Apprentice final
Thursday, 4th June 2009.
Sir Alan Sugar has chosen his two Apprentice finalists after firing three candidates following a gruelling interview task.
James McQuillan, Lorraine Tighe and Debra Barr were told they'd missed out on the final after four of Sir Alan's trusted business friends advised him on who should make the final.
The quartet of high-powered businessfolk - Chief executive Bordan Tkachuk, Birmingham City director Karren Brady, business advisor Alan Whitter and multi-millionaire Claude Litner gave the five semi-finalists the grilling of their lives.
After probing details on the candidates' CVs, employment histories and workmate references, the four returned to the boardroom to tell Sir Alan who had impressed.
The first to be given the chop was likeable 32-year-old James McQuillan, with Sugar telling him his "friendly and light-hearted" approach to business wouldn't work in his firm.
Then the remaining four females watched as he fired 36-year-old Lorraine Tighe, despite having sympathy for the mother-of-two's "hard upbringing".
With one more person to be fired from the tense boardroom, Sir Alan then told Kate Walsh that she was in danger of being too "robotic" but gave her a ticket to the final.
This before he fired 24 year-old Debra Barr.
Sugar admitted concern that Debra's rival Yasmina Siadatan already had her own restaurant business and would not enjoy the restraints of working for him.
But it wasn't enough of a concern, as he told Debra: "You should be proud of yourself. I've made my decision and I wish you the best of luck, and I know that you are going to be successful in the future. Debra, you're fired! But keep in touch."
So it was the tooth-filled temptress Kate Walsh versus ruthless restaurateur Yasmina Siadatan in the final.
Let battle commence on Sunday evening!
