Sir Alan bids farewell to Majid Nagra
Thursday, 9th April 2009.
Business development manager Majid Nagra’s unimpressive showing in this week’s task saw him become the latest contestant to be fired by Sir Alan Sugar on The Apprentice.
The 28-year-old was shown the door after his team lost the task, which involved designing an innovative piece of fitness equipment and selling it to a trio of retailers.
Majid came up with the idea of turning a simple piece of gym equipment into a form of portable multigym – which failed to appeal to any of the retailers.
In an interview to BBC Newsbeat, Maj said: "I honestly thought I'd get to the final stages, that's the honest truth.
"I've met some really great people in there, I've made some friends that I think I'll be in touch with for the rest of my life.
"It's been an awesome experience, you know, you can't go wrong."
Majid is tipping Durham smooth-talker Philip Taylor as this year’s winner.
"He's just the complete package, he's confident, he's got great business acumen and he gets on really well with Sir Alan Sugar," he said.
The Coventry-born reformed rebel - whose parents are from Pakistan - also defended fellow contestant Yasmina Siadatan, who asked white team-mate Taylor to take part in their campaign instead of Asian Noorul Choudhury because she thought there should be a mix of races.
He said: "It was a small thing that was blown way out of proportion.
“I think from a business point of view you've got to cater for everything, whether it be a white man, a green man, a yellow man, a purple man, it doesn't really matter.
"In the house everybody got on with everybody, there was no such thing as race, there was no such thing as that, it never even materialised."
