Sandwich man Rocky fails Apprentice butty task
Thursday, 2nd April 2009.
Sandwich chain owner Rocky Andrews has become the second candidate to be fired from the new series of The Apprentice.
The 21 year-old was shown the door by sir Alan Sugar following a major flop in a task that the north-easterner should have strolled.
Rocky runs 15 sandwich shops across the north of England, so immediately put himself forward to lead the boys' team in the catering task.
But whereas the women's team, lead by restaurateur Yasmina Siadatan, made a healthy £651 profit, Rocky's boys made a LOSS.
Sir Alan said: "this was the right bloke to do the job because he runs 15 shops".
Swanky
The teams were charged with providing lunch for busy Londoners before hosting a swanky canapé reception.
Team "Empire", led by Rocky, developed an Olympic theme for the catering task and made the dreadful decision to produce lame peanut butter sandwiches for the capital's hungry office workers.
His idea to charge £60 a head for canapés in the evening reception was also a disaster, with the client eventually negotiating down to £15 a head.
Andrews said: "In the north, if we'd have pitched in Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle, we'd have got the business."
Before sending him to the infamous black cab, Sir Alan said: "Rocky, you're 21-years-old but one cannot ignore what I call immature mistakes."
Rocky followed business strategist Anita Shah out of the reality show as the candidates were whittled down to 13.
