'Mistakes galore' see Ricky Groves leave Strictly
Saturday, 21st November 2009
EastEnders star Ricky Groves was voted off Strictly Come Dancing this evening after performing a dodgy Tango.
The actor admitted he "mucked up" his routine with partner Erin Boag as soon as he left the dance floor, telling the judges: "You make mistakes, you've got to go, maybe it's my time to go."
Ricky seemed a little lost after messing up the first few steps of his routine, and the judges noticed.
Len Goodman told him he "kept going wrong", with Craig Revel Horwood adding that there were "obviously mistakes galore".
Even Bruno Tonioli couldn't find anything nice to say, commenting that the performance finished "very, very badly".
Groves' dance off performance against Footballers' Wives actress Laila Rouass was much better but it appeared his fate had been already been decided.
The judges were unanimous in their votes for Laila to remain on the show, meaning Ricky was going home.
Hollyoaks actor Ricky Whittle received the highest score of the night and remains the odds-on favourite to win the show.
But the evening was soured by the news that Olympian Jade Johnson has been forced to pull out of the competition with a knee ligament injury amid fears that continuing could jeopardise her athletics career.
She said: "I'm a competitor and I don't give up easily so I'm absolutely gutted that it means that I can't continue dancing in the show.”
Next week the contestants will dance either a Rock 'n' Roll or the Charleston.
