Hellish Samba forces Jo Wood off Strictly
Sunday, 25th October 2009.
Rock grandmother Jo Wood got her marching orders from Strictly Come Dancing last night after the worst ever Samba in the history of the show.
Judges slated the 54 year-old's performance with professional partner Brendan Cole, awarding her a total of just 14 points out of a possible 40.
The never-restrained Craig Revel Horwood called it a "complete dance disaster", while Bruno Tonioli branded the dance hellish.
"You dragged poor Brendan into Samba Hell," he said. "He is trying to be valiant, but this was damned."
Jo hasn't been up to scratch on the dancefloor throughout the competition but has been saved by viewer votes.
But the barrage of criticism her dodgy Samba invited left her languishing in the bottom two along with Olympic athlete jumper Jade Johnson.
Looking grim
Even before the celebrities danced for survival it looked grim for the estranged wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood as Jade's Samba had earlier scored an impressive 32 out of 40 from the judges.
And as expected, Jo couldn't improve on her dire dancing and the judges all chose to save Jade.
Jo didn't seem too downhearted though, joking: "Hey, I'm surprised I lasted this long. It's a miracle!"
"Brendan's been wonderful to me, I'm going to dance with him on the Strictly tour - but just one dance!"
Next week, the ten couples left in the competition have to dance the rumba, jive and cha cha cha.
And we, the humble viewers will be entertained by pop legends the Bee Gees!
