Strictly's Gillian Taylforth
Friday, 29th August 2008
Gillian Taylforth is the queen of the soaps with more than 20 years starring in Britain's most popular TV shows.
She has played Kathy Mitchell in EastEnders, Jackie Pascoe-Webb in ITV1's Footballers' Wives and, more recently, Sgt Nikki Wright in ITV1's The Bill.
Gillian later appeared in the comedy drama Jane Hall and also appeared as a recurring panellist on ITV's topical chat show Loose Women.
Her brother had a premonition that she was invited to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.
Gillian says: "In his dream I didn't win the show, but apparently didn't do too badly, so I'm hoping his premonition becomes a reality!"
She adds: "‘My son thinks I'll be an embarrassment but I thought it was about time I had a bit of fun doing something I enjoy. I've got my foot spa ready to look after my tired and pained feet!"
Anton du Beke is Gillian Taylforth's dance partner
Anton is a typical English gentleman with a naughty sense of humour who specialises in ballroom dancing. He is IDTA Classic Champion 2003.
In the last series Anton partnered GMTV presenter, Kate Garraway, who controversially got through week after week.
He says: "Kate was the most wonderful person to spend that amount of time with – she was fabulous and lovely."
His hopes for the series are "to still be (competing) in the show in November and December!"
Anton adds: "Since being involved in Strictly Come Dancing my life has changed completely. I can't walk down the street without women throwing themselves at me."
