Monday, 16th August 2010
Michael Douglas has revealed that he is 'very optimistic' after doctors found a tumour in his throat, reports suggest.
The Hollywood actor released a brief statement to America's People Magazine, who also report that doctors expect the Wall Street star to make a full recovery.
Spokesman Allen Burry also told the New York Daily News that the Oscar winner will undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
Burry added that Douglas' throat tumour doesn't appear to be life-threatening, but declined to comment on the type of cancer or when it was first detected.
It has not yet been revealed when 65 year-old Douglas will begin treatment.
Douglas has has a tough 2010, telling the Chicago Sun-Times in June: "I've had a rough year on the personal front."
This followed his son Cameron being jailed earlier this year after pleading guilty to conspiring to sell crystal meth and for heroin possession.
He will return to the big screen as the iconic Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps later this year.
