The dream is over for David Van Day
Friday, 5th December 2008.
With the tabloids awash with stories of David Van Day raking in public votes, everyone was surprised when it was announced he was leaving the jungle.
The camp late-comer missed out on the final by just one day despite winding almost every other celebrity up with his madcap antics.
But he wasn't that bothered that he wouldn't be there until the end.
"It’s been a rollercoaster ride and I haven’t got much left,” he sighed to Ant and Dec.
"I’ve chatted my arse off in there and I think my work is done here."
David has been the talk of the show this year with his continual verbal (and often mental) battles with the rest of camp.
And love him or hate him, DVD has had viewers hooked. But what did the man himself have to say about his time in the jungle?
"I can only react off other people’s actions," he explained.
"Nicola gave me lots of currency and made it really easy. I don’t suppose I would have been in there that long if she hadn’t done that.
"I did say before I went in that I’d take no nonsense from anyone, and I stuck to my guns."
The war with Nicola was one thing but what about letting down Joe Swash, the man who'd initially fought in David's corner?
"I knew he felt a bit awkward about that, but at no stage did I ask Joe to stick up for me," he said brashly.
"He’s just a good sort. Forget what my game plan was, the fact is, what he saw, he didn’t like.
"Joe’s my King of the Jungle. I think he’ll win it."
And in just a few hours we'll see if he does.
