Saturday, 15th November 2008
As Ex-Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the Metropolitan Police, Brian Paddick has had to lead a pretty fearless life.
Until his retirement in May 2007 The 50 year-old was the United Kingdom's most senior openly gay police officer.
Since his switch into politics, Brian has run in the London mayoral election, 2008 as the Liberal Democrat candidate.
He came third behind eventual winner Boris Johnson and outgoing Mayor Ken Livingstone, with 9.8% of first preference votes
And on jungle life, Brian is only interested in one thing, having fun!
"I get asked to do very serious programmes," he says.
"I’m thinking once I’ve done this I probably won’t get asked to do any of those things any more and that’ll be great."
Brian wants the public to see the softer side to him: "I’m not just a serious politician and a serious former police officer," he says.
Brian will bring culinary skills to camp life and won't be afraid to show his emotions if there's upset.
"When people get upset I tend to join in,” says Brian.
"I don’t know what it is about me, whether I was dropped on my head as a baby or something, but I’ve got this thing about caring for other people."
