James Corden rips into Hollyoaks
Thursday, 7th August 2008
Bafta-winning Gavin And Stacey star James Corden has slated some of his former Hollyoaks co-stars.
The bulky funny man -who had a minor role in the Channel 4 soap in 2000 - told Esquire magazine he only liked 20% of the people who worked on the show.
That was before the 29 year-old struck gold by co-writing and starring in the award-winning romantic sitcom Gavin And Stacey.
The comedy won two Baftas after being a ratings-winner on BBC Three.
Corden has even moved stateside with the show - executive-producing a pilot in America.
But despite his recent successes, he's not forgotten about the stint he had on Hollyoaks back in the early noughties.
Rather die than go back
He told Esquire magazine, in which he appears on the next issue's front cover: "I'd actually rather die than go back.
"I can't tell you the sheer disdain I have for the place and the people.
"I met a couple of really good friends there, but it's (only) 20% nice people.
"... all these people walking around with this chicken-in-a-basket fame, talking about going to LA, you know?"
He had nicer things to say about Gavin and Stacey though, adding: "Every aspect of my life, personally and professionally, feels so different.
Higher stakes
"The stakes feel so much higher than they were.
"It's inconceivable to me that I could be on the cover of a magazine, because people on a magazine don't look like me.
"I must be the biggest fella you've put on the cover of Esquire, mustn't I?"
Probably, James.
