Hell’s Kitchen: Danielle Bux

Tuesday, 14th April 2009.

Model and former air stewardess Danielle Bux is hoping her temper doesn’t reach boiling point in the kitchen.

The fiancé of footballing legend Gary Lineker admits that he is worried how her temper will fare in the kitchen whilst the model reveals that she shakes with fear at the mere mention of Marco’s name.

“They are [her family] all really excited [about me being in the show]. I think Gary is slightly worried about my temper - it’s not bad but when it goes it goes.”

“He [Marco] is scary, I am really quite nervous about meeting him. [Last series] the first couple of shows he was really hardcore and full on and then he became more of a mentor as the show went on, which was lovely actually really nice - just the thought of him and I start shaking.”

Basic culinary skills

Admitting to having basic culinary skills, Danielle admits she is hoping to expand on her current signature dishes which consist of lasagne, beef stew and roast dinner.

“I’ve got a daughter, Ella, who is seven and Gary’s boys are between 11 and 17, so trying to get them to eat is just a nightmare. I made a lasagne last week and George, Gary’s oldest, asked if I made it myself and I said ‘yeah’ and he said ‘what from scratch?’”

Open to the prospect of being confrontational with her fellow celebrities, the sexy model confesses that what she hopes to gain most from this experience is to impress the legendary Marco.

“I love working with people, I am a people person and quite looking forward to that but I think I could snap if someone gets in my way.  I would be the person who would tell them. I would say to their face, not their back, ‘pull your finger out’. I will not be walked all over, if I feel like someone is taking the p*ss I will tell them straight.”

“The person I am most keen on impressing is Marco, I want to prove myself to him, I don’t want him thinking I am just some dippy Welsh bird who is incapable… I want to try and get the respect from Marco because I really respect him. If I come out and he says to me ‘well done you tried hard’ then that would be enough for me.”

While a fan of the legendary chef, it’s actually another TV chef that Danielle often turns to for help when in her own kitchen.

“My favourite is Jamie Oliver, because he cooks for normal people, we can all follow a recipe but he doesn’t use fancy ingredients. You know I can just come in at the end of the day and cook from Jamie Oliver with stuff I have in the fridge, that’s the reason I really like him.”

Whilst she admits to having no experience working in a restaurant, the glamorous model feels her previous job as an air stewardess means she is used to coping in stressful situations.

“I worked as an air hostess and they have kitchens on board and it is far more stressful than you would think. When you are doing the upper class meals you have to do the mains, the starters, the deserts, the tea, the coffee, it is not like you have just one task at hand. They all want to eat at the same time and I used to get really stressed out.”

Revealing that her favourite food is Japanese and Italian, Danielle says that her most memorable meal was her first date with fiancé and Match of The Day presenter, Gary Lineker when she was too nervous to eat her meal.

“My first date with Gary was the most memorable meal. I was so nervous that I couldn’t eat my food. I don’t know why I was so nervous…He (Gary) took me to an Italian in Knightsbridge with a lovely little fireplace. And actually when I went to the toilet he said he finished my pasta off for me. He said I thought you were one of those model types who never ate, and I said ‘no, I’m not, I was just nervous.’”

After Hell’s Kitchen, Danielle and Gary will be working together on their first project which will see the pair featuring in a travelogue around Northern Ireland.

“I’m doing a new show with Gary called Northern Exposure.  It’s a travelogue and we go around Northern Ireland looking at the countryside and getting involved in activities such as rock climbing and wind surfing.  It’s our first job together and I’m so excited to be working with him.”
