EastEnders tag won’t leave Michelle Ryan

Former EastEnders star Michelle Ryan reckons she’ll forever be recognised for playing Zoe Slater in Albert Square – no matter what other roles she takes.
It’s been over four years since the actress left the BBC soap and although she’s starred in a US remake of Bionic Woman and ITV drama Jekyll, she accepts that it’s EastEnders for what she’ll always be known.
She told PA: "Bionic Woman was a huge show, but people are still going to know for being Zoe Slater - people liked her so much."
"I was in LA and I was signing some autographs and I could hear someone shouting 'Zoe, Zoe'.
“I didn't think it could be for me, so I turned around and it was."
But the star feels the training and experience she received from EastEnders was crucial to her acting career.
"I think EastEnders is an apprenticeship, and you just have to do the work,” she said.
“There's no time to get above yourself there, the work needs doing. It's such a great grounding.”
Michelle is now starring in ITV1 two-part comedy drama Mister Eleven along with with fellow ex-Eastender Sean Maguire.
