New EastEnder praises Muslim family portrayal

EastEnders' newest recruit Ramon Tikaram is pleased that the BBC soap shows a Muslim family positively.
The 42 year-old - best known as the sexually adventurous courier Ferdy in 90s drama 'This Life' - will arrive in Albert Square later this year.
He will play gorgeous Amira Shah's father, Qadim, and is excited about being part of the hit show.
"It's great to be joining a programme that represents a Muslim family in a positive light," he said.
"It's also fantastic to be working with old friends including Nitin Ganatra and Preeya Kalidas."
Ramon's character Qadim was once a loving father to the soon-to-be-married Amira.
But that was before Amira's mother Shahana died of cancer and Qadim turned from a doting husband and father into a ruthless, arrogant businessman with a heart of stone.
His dodgy business dealings led him to prison so he needs to repair his relationship with Amira to stand any hope of getting his life back on track.
Ramon will appear on screens later this year when Amira visits Qadim in prison and he'll be released just in time for her wedding to Syed.
But only if Syed can keep his secret gay relationship with Christian under the radar!
