Nasty Nick is returning to Walford
Sunday, 5th October 2008
EastEnders' Nasty Nick Cotton is making a dramatic return to Albert Square this Christmas.
Played by John Altman, Nick has been behind bars for the past few years for drug offences so his return is full of mystery as to why he has decided to shake things up in Walford once more.
But the only person who will welcome Nick with open arms is his old "Ma" Dot.
Or will she?
Altman said of his character's return: "After an absence of seven years I am thrilled to return to Albert Square.
“The BBC have always given me great storylines as Nick Cotton and I look forward to seeing if Nick will once again spread fear and loathing throughout the Square!"
Altman is something of an EastEnders veteran having appeared in the BBC soap's very first episode in 1985.
He earned his "Nasty" nickname for committing a string of Albert Square murders and even an attempted murder of his own mum, who he tried to poison.
The show’s executive producer Diederick Santer said: "Nick Cotton is an EastEnders legend.
"His complex relationship with Dot, his criminal tendencies, and his addiction to heroin, violence, and everything else that's bad have made him one of the show's best-remembered and best-loved villains.
"We're very excited that he - and the talented John Altman who plays him - will be returning to the Square."
