Masoods set to rule Albert Square

EastEnders' business-thinking Masood family look set to remain in Walford for a long time after receiving glowing praise from a BBC drama chief.
John Yorke, Controller of Drama at the BBC, and former EastEnders Executive Producer was at the Media Guardian ethnic media summit when he spoke about the future prospects of the Masoods.
He said: "The Masood family are developing slowly in Albert Square.
"I'm proud of the way the audience has warmed to them."
And the EastEnders official website echoed Yorke's sentiments, saying: "Mouthy matriarch Zainab, her level-headed husband Masood, plus brainiac son Tamwar will all have key roles to play in the future of Walford.
"Yorke has hinted that their combined entrepreneurial talents could ring some extreme changes in the Square's delicate power balance."
They will be a Masood short in the next few months though after the daughter of the family Shabnam (Zahra Ahmadi) announced she will be leaving the soap.
The actress was reportedly frustrated by a lack of storylines for her character, but hasn;t ruled out a return.
She said: "I've made the tough decision to leave as I'm still young and I want to try other roles. But I'm really happy the door has been left open for me to return as it has been a great experience."
But even without Shabnam, the Masoods are set to give the other power families of Albert Square - the Mitchells and the Beales - a run for their money.
