Fears for Enders' Jim after he has 2nd stroke
Sunday, 10th August 2008
EastEnders actor John Bardon is in hospital after suffering a suspected stroke for the second time in a year.
John - who plays the bumbling Jim Branning in Albert Square - was rushed to Chelsea's Lister hospital late on Friday night.
But his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
The 68 year-old had only just returned to the BBC1 soap after spending a year recovering from a stroke he suffered last summer.
He had been looking forward to making a permanent return after filming on a one-off episode in which he comes out of his nursing home to celebrate his birthday in Albert Square.
The episode is due to be aired tomorrow.
John had been regaining his speech and mobility after his first stroke and recently made his first public appearance in a year at the Life After Stroke Awards.
Speaking about the actor's condition in May, Bardon's wife Enda revealed: "John's speech comes out as gobbledygook. But he can swear!
"
I hope being with his colleagues will get more out of him."
EastEnders producer Diederick Santer added: "We felt the character of Jim is so well-loved the audience want to see his return."
Get well soon John!
