Rob Kazinsky leaves EastEnders to become a mechanic
Monday, 4th August 2008
The man who plays EastEnders bad-boy Sean Slater is leaving the soap to begin an apprenticeship as a mechanic.
Rob Kazinsky is not going down the usual route actors take when they leave a the show - to take the lead in an ITV drama, release a hit single, or even go into panto.
He is making a much more self-fulfilling career choice instead.
He revealed the news on This Morning, saying: "As soon as I leave, my car mechanics - who I pay very well because my car is in there every week - have agreed to help me fulfil a dream of mine.
"That is to do my apprenticeship.
"I'm going to learn how to become a mechanic, so I can build my own car and look after it."
"'m a big petrolhead - I love racing and anything to do with cars.
"So the opportunity to go and fulfil a hobby like that is great.
"I've saved a bit of money, so I can do an intensive course.
"I'll be able to know, when I go to a car mechanic and they say something is wrong, whether they're telling lies.
"You never know whether there is going to be another job after a show like EastEnders."
Rob has been heavily linked with a move stateside in recent weeks - with his rugged good looks and menacing acting style said to be attracting Hollywood Directors.
But Rob's not so sure, saying: "There's been a lot written about Hollywood and me."
"Hollywood is an ideal situation, every actor would love to be going to there and making movies.
"I was planning on giving it a go but what with the writers' strike and the newly confirmed actors' strike, it's not the best time."
