Samia Smith becomes Corrie's newest mum
Monday, 19th October 2009.
Coronation Street star Samia Smith has become a mum after giving birth to a healthy baby girl.
The actress and her property developer husband Matt welcomed the 7lbs 2oz girl into the world earlier today.
The couple named the girl "Freya" and a spokeswoman from the soap has confirmed: "Mum and baby doing well. Samia and husband Matt are delighted.
"Everyone at Corrie is thrilled at the latest arrival to the ’Corrie family’.”
The 27 year-old's character Maria Connor has recently been forced to wear baggy clothing or use strategically placed cushions to hide the fact that Samia is pregnant.
And Street co-star Alison King - who also gave birth this year - has been giving Samia tips on motherhood in the run up to Freya's birth.
Alison - who plays Carla Gordon on the ITV soap - told the TV Times: "I've given her lots and lots of tips, but I haven't told her any of the bad bits.
"I'm just warming her slowly. I'll wait until her baby is born and then I'll be there for her."
The birth of baby Freya is the latest in a mini baby boom for Corrie stars, with Julia Haworth (Claire Peacock) and Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) also giving birth recently.
