Sue Nicholls relishes tough plots
Tuesday, 13th October 2009.
Coronation Street legend Sue Nicholls likes the occasional difficult storyline to keep her on her toes.
The veteran actress - who plays Audrey Roberts on the soap - admits she enjoys being challenged by plot twists.
She told The Lancashire and Morecambe Citizen: “I do like doing tough storylines from time to time, though, to prove I can still do it.
"Christmas is going to really hot up with the Tony Connor business but I don’t even know what happens yet, which is quite fun.
"The hours are long and so you have to enjoy your work. I like being Audrey.
"I don’t have to worry about the real world and normal things like going to the bank, which come as a bit of a shock on my days off!”
The 65-year-old also thinks that as she grows older, she is gradually becoming more and more like Audrey.
"I think as I’ve mellowed with age, so has Audrey, she said.
"I’m a vino and slippers girl when I’m at home and so it’s nice to be more calm in character also.
"After all, she is a grandma now."
2009 marks the 30th year since Audrey first appeared on the long running ITV1 soap.
But she wasn't made a permanent member of the Street until six years later.
