Blanche actress may have to quit Corrie
Tuesday, 13th October 2009.
Coronation Street actress Maggie Jones may be forced to leave her role as busybody Blanch Hunt after suffering a bad fall at her home.
The 75 year-old underwent major surgery at a Salford hospital after the accident and is still said to be seriously ill.
However earlier reports that the Weatherfield favourite had ruptured her spleen have been denied.
A show spokesperson said: "We are all hoping and wishing the best for Maggie, who is much loved by everyone at Coronation Street.
"She's had an operation and obviously she's in her 70s. Our thoughts are with her. Everyone's wishing her a speedy recovery."
Written out
RADA trained Maggie has been written out of all immediate scenes and there are fears that her career may be over.
Insiders reckon that even if she makes a full recovery, a return to filming is unlikely until early 2010.
This isn't the first time Maggie has suffered a health setback - she injured her shoulder and knee last April in another fall that left her unable to work for several weeks.
Award winner
The soap veteran has won many awards for her portrayal of battle-axe Blanche.
She landed Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2005 and 2008 and won Funniest Performance at the recent Inside Soap Awards.
Even pop star George Michael admitted in a recent interview that she is the person who makes Corrie so funny.
