Coronation Street to invite The Queen
Monday, 5th October 2009.
The Queen could be having half a shandy in the Rovers Return if Coronation Street bosses have their way.
December 2010 marks the ITV show's 50th Anniversary and a Corrie indider has hinted that Her Maj is top of the producers' wish list to make a guest appearance.
She wouldn't be the first member of the royal family to appear on the epic soap - Prince Charles was a special guest in the show’s 40th anniversary in 2000.
The insider reckons: “They will literally red carpet the M6 for the Queen’s special guest appearance.
“We had Prince Charles for the 40th, which was great, but the feeling is that for the 50th we had to top even him – and the only person capable of doing that is the Queen herself.
“Camilla is a big fan of the show and hopefully we haven’t put her nose out of place by insisting on the Queen.
If all goes to plan, it won't be The Queen's first walk on the famous cobbled street - she made a special visit to the set in 1982.
The insider added: “The Street was decked out in red, white and blue bunting from end to end. It was a real party atmosphere and the effect it had on the cast was huge.
“The celebrations are being geared for the end of next year and landing the Queen is their No.1 priority.
“The show’s writers are very excited about the prospect of her involvement and they've come up with quite a few ideas already.
“She should certainly feel at home in the Rovers, with a landlady named Liz!”
The Corrie producers must be thinking "Who needs Boris Johnson when we can have the Queen".
