Bullseye legend Jim Bowen wants Corrie role
Saturday, 11th October 2008.
Former host of hit darts quiz show Bullseye Jim Bowen has revealed he would jump at the the chance to make an appearance on Coronation Street.
The Lancashire comedy legend who became known for his quick-fire quips on the low-budget 80s classic Bullseye wants to act opposite Barbara Knox (Rita Sullivan).
The former stand-up comedian told the Sun: "I'd like to go in Corrie. There were rumours I was scheduled to be Gail's father, but some other lucky gentleman got it."
"But I would have to be an elderly gentleman.
"I'd be the regular who sat in the corner of the Rovers sipping a few pints who the locals come to for advice - it would be a fairly low pressure gig.
Double act
"Rita was a singer in a band, I play the trumpet so perhaps Rita and I could do a little double act.
"She hasn't had a love interest for a while.
"I'd be quite happy to step in and escort her away from Norris.
"She must be fed up with him by now."
There were rumours that Bowen was in talks with Corrie chiefs last September but nothing came of it.
So Street bosses, if you're reading, Jim's only at the end of a phone!
