Lesbians like Alison King
Friday, 22nd August 2008.
Two in five of Britain’s lovesick lesbians want to get it on with Corrie's Alison King according to a major gay love poll.
Alison - who plays sassy Carla Connor in the ITV soap - came top in the gay-PARSHIP.co.uk poll that asked hundreds of gay singles which female Brit soap star they’d most like to date.
Alison was trailed closely by Roxanne McKee (ex-jailbird Louise Summers in Hollyoaks) with 21%.
Samia Smith - Coronation Street's hairdresser Maria Sutherland - came third with 15%, with Emmerdale's Roxanne Pallett and Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe in joint fourth place with 9%.
Samantha Janus, who plays EastEnders club owner Ronnie Mitchell, would struggle to lure lonesome lesbians after coming in last place with just 6% of the votes.
A male version of the poll saw Alison King's fellow Street star Rob James-Collier come out on top ahead of Hollyoaks' James Sutton.
A third of gay male singles were seen to have a homo-hankering for the Corrie actor, who plays Alison's on-screen brother-in-law Liam Connor.
Gay-PARSHIP spokesman, Adrian Gillan, said: "From Albert Square to Weatherfield, credible gay and lesbian characters may be scarce on our small screens, but this poll proves there’s clearly still no shortage of gay love-interest in many of our Great British soaps.
"Whilst lesbians and gays nationwide are doubtless all hoping Corrie’s Carla and Liam are granted same-sex storylines, however fleeting, the departure of queer character John Paul McQueen from Hollyoaks next month (Sept 2008) – so wonderfully portrayed by sexy James Sutton over the past two years – will prove a true homo-blow for many a single gay bloke!"
